Student Artwork
The Art4Athletes program is a creative and innovative way of connecting athletes and team officials with Australian school students.

Students from across Australia were invited to submit an artwork as a gift to an athlete or official living in the Athletes' Village during the Games. Students were asked to submit artworks using one of three themes:

  • Welcome to Australia!

  • Welcome to my home!

  • Welcome to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games!

  • In addition, students were invited to write a special message of welcome or support to the recipient which is attached to the back of each artwork.

Students from most states and territories in Australia participated in the project. Student ages ranged from 5 years to 18 years old.

Thank you to the thousands of students and teachers in nearly 450 schools from across Australia that have provided over 6,000 student artworks.

We are currently working through the artworks and getting them ready to be shipped to the Athletes' Village in time for the arrival of teams from around the world!

You can see a sample of the incredible artistic talents of students from across Australia by visiting the virtual gallery.
