Get involved in your Local Government Events
The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games provides a great opportunity for your school to get involved in Games-related activities. Involvement in community activities will also help bring the Games closer to your students, fostering greater links between your school and your community, promoting healthy and active lifestyles and encouraging environmentally sustainable behaviour.

Games-related activities include:

  • Getting Involved – encouraging all communities across Victoria to join in the Games celebration by taking advantage of this unique grants program.

  • Opening Ceremony – opportunities for students to be involved in the official Opening Ceremony as well as encouraging students to be a part of local community Opening Ceremony celebrations.

  • Queen’s Baton Relay – travelling across the Commonwealth and passing through every Victorian municipality, the Queen’s Baton Relay is a chance for students to join with their community in welcoming the Baton. The Queen’s Baton Relay is supported by the Australian Government.

  • Games Cultural Festival – funded by the Victorian and Australian Government, the Cultural Program will celebrate the diversity of the Commonwealth with free and low cost events as well as staging community events across Victoria.
